About the VTC

Valley Taxpayers Coalition, Inc. monitors the activities of local government entities, including local City Councils, Boards of Supervisors, and various special district entities. Many of our members have extensive background in both government and private sector institutions, and know how to evaluate what’s really going on behind the scenes.

We also provide public education regarding activities of local government. We work with state taxpayer organizations, including the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, in making the public aware of government abuse and mismanagement..

We also participate in public interest oriented litigation to ensure that local government entities comply with state and local laws requiring voter approval of tax increases, and certain debt transactions, and the appropriate use of eminent domain powers. Chris Mathys, the President of the VTC, recently was victorious in the suit against the City of Fresno’s illegal In-Lieu Tax. Chris served in the army at the Southern Command in Panama and graduated from Fresno State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and then received an MBA at the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1989, He opened Oro Financial of California, Inc., a mortgage lender located in Fresno, California.

Our members are also active members of various Citizen Oversight Committees, including serving on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committees for:

Central Unified School District - Jeff Reid

State Center Community Colleges District - Jeff Reid

Fresno Council of Governments Measure C Extension Steering Committee - Jeff Reid
